Five Accessories Challenge

1/19/2019

Comments

It's very easy to play it safe when it comes to outfits and accessories. For the new year we have challenged ourselves to using at least five accessories! At first, five sounds like a lot of pieces, but the pieces add up quickly. Check below to see how we pulled this challenge off!

Sarah's Style

This week's theme is to pick 5 different accessories to coordinate with our outfits.  I truly believe in the "less is more" mantra, especially when it comes to accessorizing. Of course, I shied away from anything too loud or flashy with my clothing choices, and I tried to let the accessories speak for themselves.
Picture
I chose a black, mid length dress to start. The added layer of fabric around the waist makes this otherwise basic dress a little more interesting. I like how it cinches in my waist and gives me a slimmer appearance. The longer length and longer sleeves makes it a perfect fall to winter piece. The fabric has really nice movement and is also really soft! It feels really classy and simple.

Since my dress is so plain, I decided to try and add small pops of neutral color in my accessories. Fringe is so popular right now, so I chose some fringe earrings and a necklace to match.

The earrings are really different from a lot of styles I've ever worn. Typically I wouldn't go for a dangle earring, but I really enjoy stepping outside of my box each week to see if there's something new I might like to incorporate into my wardrobe at home. I love the different tones of brown and white running throughout these dangles and I really appreciate the gold element to them too. It adds a little sparkle to my very "boring" outfit.

This gorgeous mustard toned necklace compliments the earrings so well! There is something so eye catching to me about yellow. I've really fallen in love with mustard over the last year and it's now become a staple.

I added a small  hammered gold cuff to tie in with the rest of the gold I had going on. I love the simplicity of a cuff, but it really does hold it's own and makes a really nice statement.

For my last two accessories I chose a floppy fedora and a fun patterned scarf to go around it. I like how I was still able to keep my outfit fairly monochromatic, but have slight color variances here and there. The green wasn't off putting or too loud and I think it adds an element of surprise to the outfit overall.

Savana's Style

Putting together an outfit is always more fun when you have a bunch of accessories to choose from and spice up the style! To be honest...I always forget to accessorize with my outfits but the times I do I feel ten times sassier!
Picture
I dressed up in a comfy black long sleeve shirt with one of my favorite pairs of blue denim distressed jeans. Now, this outfit is simple enough to wear anywhere, but the accessories are what really creates the look. I'm not much of a hat wearer but this gray hat will for sure be turning heads and makes the biggest difference.

I went with a basic black belt to keep the colors of my outfit on the same scheme. But to add a bit of color I wore a dainty turquoise half circle marble necklace! The bright color against the dark colors of everything else definitely stands out a lot! I finished off my look with two little silver rings that, although small, help add to the outfit in a big way!

I had a lot of fun wearing different accessories and will start including them in more of my looks! The accessories are what adds to it and makes the whole outfit complete!

Kate's Style

Accessorizing is one of the best parts about putting an outfit together. You can let all your accessories do the talking for your outfit with big pieces, bright colors, or patterns. Or you can keep it more simple and delicate if your outfit wants to steal the show.

For my outfit I chose to choose one of the best go to outfits, a jumpsuit. I layered a light cardigan to keep me cozy. For the first accessory I chose to add a black belt to help tie the waist in of the jumpsuit. Sometimes if your jumpsuit doesn't have an extra tie or a prominent waistline it's easy for your body to be lost in them, a belt helps cinch it all in.  Next up is this adorable velvet bow hair tie. I mean, it doesn't even need an explanation for why it's here, it's so cute.

For the jewelry portion of my accessorize I kept it pretty simple and delicate. If I do end up doing a big statement piece of jewelry it usually is an earring. But for this outfit I chose a dainty little gold necklace with this fun hand detail. I added the sweetest little crescent moon ring and finished it off with these wood earrings. Wood earrings! How fun and unique are those. Whether it's big or small, your accessorize can say a lot. And as girls can we have have too many?

Rachel's Style

Accessories are a great way to dress up any outfit! They can elevate basics and provide a pop of color or a focal point.

For this outfit, I chose the following five accessories: a hat, a bracelet, a belt, a tote bag, and a neckerchief. I kept the jewelry minimal and instead used different types of accessories to keep the look stylish but functional. The hat is of course a great way to protect yourself from the sun and the bag is large enough to hold all of your daily essentials. The neckerchief can easily transition from bag charm to hair band to cute scarf.

The heart-shaped belt is perfect for bringing a touch of whimsy to this outfit without going overboard and the marble cuff incorporates the neutral tan color of the mock neck long sleeve for a more cohesive look. The best part: you can throw everything into the bag at the end of the day!

Josie's Style

Picture
I'm usually plain jane when it comes to accessories, but I am totally working on it! This week's theme was really pushing me out of my comfort zone with wearing five accessories. I wanted to show that you can wear more accessories while also wearing multiple colors and textures for an almost maximalist look.

For my outfit I went with our new dark night navy bodysuit paired with a marsala skirt. The bodysuit and skirt are also outside of my realm of comfort but I'm so GLAD I tried both pieces. I absolutely loved them together! I typically don't wear fitted things but the bodysuit felt so slimming and the skirt was a great length for me.

I added a denim jacket with sherpa lining for warmth. I also like the different fabrics mixed together. One of my accessories is a tote bag to help keep all my items!
Picture
To help keep my hair in place I went with our new velvet bow scrunchie in a leopard print. I don't have much leopard print but loved how the scrunchie looked with my pony tail! Since I had a loud scrunchie and a long necklace I opted for simple circular stud earrings.

It wouldn't be a Josie outfit without a long necklace. This time I went with our new scallop bolo chain necklace. The bottom has a vertical bar hanging. On my wrist I opted for my favorite snap bracelet. To give the look a casual street wear vibe I went with my rust Superga's in navy!
